RediCare powered treatment scoops UK Pharmacy Award

RediCare Control powered treatment of Type 2 Diabetic Patients wins excellence in General Practice Pharmacy Award at the clinical pharmacy congress in London.

Congrats to Emily Bond who won the excellence in General Practice Pharmacy Award at the Clinical pharmacy Congress in London recently. Emily works as a PCN pharmacist in Hampshire had been short listed in two categories for her collaborative project between the Homewell Practice, Barlow Collins and RediCare.

The winning project used RediCare Control, a Digital Therapeutic delivered in a primary care setting in conjunction with a multi-disciplined team from the Homewell Practice on multi morbid patients with severe metabolic syndrome in a socially deprived area.

The project was very successful, delivering clinically significant reductions in HbA1c, Blood Pressure, Weight and Triglycerides.

Patients also saw significant medication reductions and in some case’s eliminations in Type 2 Diabetic patients. The high volume of recruitment, 41 (c. 32%) participants from c. 135 who were offered treatment suggests that patients are far more likely to partake in validated lifestyle therapy when a referral is made by their Doctor, Prescribing Pharmacist or specialist Diabetes Nurse.

Emily’s role included data collection, patient education, risk management and a balance of prescribing and deprescribing as patient began to improve their HbA1c, Blood Pressure and Lipid Profiles. She says, there was a challenge in ensure we kept this as an person-centred process but also ensuring patients were safety netted and reviewed regularly to avoid any potential hypoglycaemia arising from dropping blood glucose or conversely any rebound hypoglycaemia caused by returning to previous lifestyle behaviours.

Commenting on the programme’s success and award Dr Dominic Davis, Clinical Director of the Home Well Practice said, 'We are delighted with Emily’s awards, it reflects the hard work that Emily and the whole team at Homewell put into the project over the last nine months, we look forward to expanding the service to other cohorts and neighbouring practices.'
